10 good Reasons to Step Up Your Yoga Practice (or begin one)

Reason # 1: Increased Energy

With the days getting longer, you’re going to need plenty of energy to fill them up! With proper attention to the breath, the practice of yoga increases oxygen in the blood, delivering a boost to every cell and revitalizing body and mind. The poses also help regulate blood sugar by helping the muscles to absorb excess glucose from the blood. By enlivening the liver, pancreas, and pancreatic cells, the practice of yoga asana helps maintain a healthy balance of glucose and insulin.

Plus, yoga helps to balance the endocrine system. During our classes at CMC we steadily engage the muscles of the whole body while bending and twisting into various asanas, putting therapeutic pressure on the glands that generate and secrete the hormones that regulate healthy sleep, mood, appetite, and other body functions. The practice of shoulderstand – the focus of one of our upcoming workshops – has been known to sort out the issues of fatigue, sleeplessness and weight gain associated with thyroid dysfunction.

If you think you don’t have time for yoga, think again – the rejuvenating affects of the practice will have you getting out of bed more readily to begin your day, and you will find your energy will last you well into the night as well. Try our early morning or late evening classes to fit in an extra yoga practice into your already busy schedule.
